St John's is part of the Worldwide Church of England, and its mission: 1. To provide a place for people to worship God through our Lord Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, to grow in faith and find friendship, love and support; 2. To promote the Christian faith to the people of the Parish of Smallbridge anbd to the people of the united benefice of Wardle and Smallbridge; 3. To work with the Anglican Churches at Calderbrooke, Dearnley and Shore, and with the Churches of the Littleborough Methodist Circuit, with whom we are in a Covenant relationship, to promote the Christian faith in the Littleborough area.

Leave the M62 motorway at junction 21, and head toward Milnrow. At the first junction (second set of traffic lights) go right and immediately left again, up a very steep hill. Near the crest of the hill, turn left following signs for Hollingworth lake country park, and travel along the whole of Wildhouse Lane. There is a T-junction and mini-roundabout at the end. Go right, and follow the road (Hollingworth Road) to its end. This will involve two hair-pin bends. At the very end, you will see a railway bridge to your left. Go left, under the bridge, past a large Church on your right. Soon afterwards, go straight across the mini-roundabout, and follow the road for nearly two miles. St John's Church is on your left just before a stretch of dual carriageway.
